Sightseeing Gondolas in Banff

At nearly 4,500 feet above sea level, Banff holds the title of Canada’s highest town. As you ascend, you’ll see first hand the majesty of behemoth mountains and sculpted valleys. During the winter, the Banff Gondolas and Mt Norquay chairlift are popular attractions that provide guests with a serene, mountaintop experience. At the summit of Sulphur Mountain (on the Banff Gondola), dine in the Northern Light restaurant while enjoying the spectacular views, grab a souvenir or two, or hike along one of several trails at the summit. AT the Mt Norquay Chairlift, bundle up and ride to the top where you can enjoy the scenery from Cliff House Bistro.

What to expect

You won’t miss a moment of the Banff views while sitting in a glass-enclosed 4-person gondola cabin or a 2-person chairlift. Enjoy the relaxing sensation of floating above the ground as you watch the forest floor drop away, where you might catch a glimpse of adventurous winter hikers climbing the serpentine paths to the top. We offer tickets for the Banff gondola and Mt Norquay chairlift. Ask us which one is right for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Are the gondola cars open air or enclosed?
Depends on the gondola! The Sulphur Mountain gondola is enclosed with glass, the Mt. Norquay chairlift is much like what you’d see on a ski hill, and Lake Louise has a combination of both open-air chairlifts and enclosed gondolas.
  2. How much are tickets per person for the Banff Gondola?
Rates per person are $66 and up, depending on the season, time of day, the projected volume of visitors, and how far in advance you book your tickets.
  3. How long is a gondola ride?
Once on board the chairlift or gondola, the ride to the top is roughly 7-12 minutes.
  4. Can you still see the view with cloudy and rainy weather?
Definitely! While cloud cover and rain may obstruct the views further away, most days you will still be able to see for some distance from the mountain summit.
