Experience the beauty of Fortress Mountain by dogsled. Once one of Alberta’s premier ski areas, Fortress Mountain now offers a popular dogsled operation and is a favorite location for many movie sets. There’s nothing like the excitement of being pulled across a snowy landscape by a team of sled dogs in the Canadian Rockies!
Journey along a scenic trail that winds around the historic Fortress Mountain Ski Area, offering sweeping views up and down the valley and toward the surrounding peaks. This route takes you through terrain that’s been largely untouched since 2004—seen only by a few and featured in major Hollywood films.
Your adventure begins with a 15-minute shuttle ride from the base of the access road to the trailhead, located about three-quarters of the way up the mountain. Upon arrival, your guides will introduce you to the world of dog sledding, covering the basics of dog handling and equipment. You’ll then meet the friendly sled dogs and help prepare them for the journey ahead.
Once the teams are ready, set off on a 10 km route that winds along the plateau of West Woody, surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas. Whether you choose to drive the sled under your guide’s supervision or relax as a passenger, the experience offers a true taste of adventure in the Canadian Rockies.
After returning to the trailhead, you’ll have time to thank your sled team with treats and warm up by the fire inside our cozy tent. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies before your shuttle ride back down the mountain.

Book your adventure
- 2 hour total tour time with approx 1.25 hours trail time with photo stops along the way
- Guests must make their own way to meet at the trailhead at Fortress Mountain (meeting 15 minutes prior to tour time). Directions will be provided upon booking.
- Price is based on a minimum of 2 people in sled.
- We require the names, ages and weights of all participating guests at time of booking.
