A Canine Like No Other
One of the most exciting parts of visiting Banff is taking in the incredible wildlife that call the Rockies home. While eager eyes can spy big horn sheep, the odd bear, and plenty of other creatures all summer long, those who want the opportunity to safely get up close and personal with some wild creatures without risking hefty fines and injury should consider treating themselves to an interactive wolfdog tour at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. As a non-profit that is located an hour away from Banff in Cochrane, Yamnuska opened its doors 12 years ago to care for wolfdogs that come to their sanctuary from all over Alberta. These unique, highly vulnerable offspring result from the cross mating of wolves and dogs, which can lead to stunning creatures that often find themselves at risk due to their wild instincts that don’t quite mesh with domestic living. The team at Yamnuska has dedicated themselves to tirelessly educating visitors about the risks and realities associated with wolfdogs, as well as how wolves function in the wild throughout Alberta. Through demonstrations, education, and even interactive tours, you and the whole family can get up close to these beautiful creatures and learn more about the wild that lurks in their DNA.
Yamnuska tours are suitable for guests ages 15 and up, and visitors should be aware that no pets are allowed to join you on your adventure for everyone’s safety.
Unleash Your Inner Cowboy
Want to connect with a bit of the wild west and go rugged during your time in the Rockies? While we can’t make you an official cowboy, we can sure help you experience Banff like they did during the early explorer days!
Banff Adventures offers multiple horseback riding tours ranging in length from 1-4 hrs, each of which is perfect for riders of all levels and ideal for families looking for an easy way to see the park without tiring out their little ones on foot. Our skilled guides will help you navigate some of the most scenic trails in the region, treating you to jaw-dropping views and plenty of fun facts that you can share with your friends when you go back home! Horseback rides typically operate from mid-late spring all the way through to early fall (weather dependent on each side), giving you lots of time to grab your cowboy hat and saddle up for an adventure!
Whitewater Rafting
Looking to kick things up a notch and take a more active part in your experience? Whitewater rafting is an incredible way to explore the Rockies and puts you right front and centre for all of the action as you tackle the Kicking Horse River in Yoho National Park. As one of our most popular summer options (book soon to avoid disappointment!), rafting is a great experience for families, friends, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and more! Perfect for all skill levels (note: we highly recommend participants are comfortable in the water and have the ability to swim), this is one adventure you’re sure to remember forever!
Soar with the Banff Gondola Gondola
Finally, if you want epic views and a chance to check a must off your bucket list, don’t miss out on a thrilling ride on the Banff Gondola. With the help of our trusty gondolas, you’ll travel over 7000 ft into the sky, all the way to the top of Sulphur Mountain, where you can enjoy the wonder and comfort of the state-of-the-art interpretive centre, as well as world-class dining.
