There are a lot of ways you can see Banff’s best sites, from hiking to shuttle bus tours, but one of the more popular summer activities in Banff is horseback riding. You can get up close to some of our most iconic landmarks while learning all the basics of riding from veteran cowboys!
At Banff Adventures, we offer horseback riding tours in four different locations. Keep reading to learn more about the interesting sights you can visit and how to book your tour with our team.
Bow River
The Bow River Valley is located just outside the entrance to Banff National Park on the Trans-Canada Highway and is surrounded by the Wildland Provincial Park. The Bow River is situated among an evergreen forest and the Bow Range, a set of mountain peaks that include The Three Sisters, Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, and more.
This valley is home to thick marshes and meadows, and there’s even a natural sulphur hot spring! Our Bow River Ride goes through all of these beautiful sights, riding right along the river for a full hour.
Spray River
Another 1-hour riding excursion we offer at Banff Adventures is through the Spray River, situated in the Bow Falls. Our Spray River Ride passes by iconic Banff sites like the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course and completes a partial climb up Sulphur Mountain, among other natural wonders on the ride.
Sundance Loop
One of the most beautiful hikes in the Bow Valley area is the Sundance Canyon, a forested canyon that features wild moss-covered rock formations. We offer one of our two-hour riding excursions here, which we call the Sundance Loop, as it’s tacked onto the standard Bow River ride. This ride goes up Sulphur Mountain and around the Windy Knoll viewpoint.
Sulphur Mountain
Sulphur Mountain has one of the most popular trails in Banff, and horseback riding is one of the best ways to see it! This mountain is famous for its hot springs on the lower slopes, which is what earned it the name “Sulphur Mountain” in 1916.
Today, you can enjoy the hot springs in the Cave and Basin National Historic Site and the Banff Upper Hot Springs. You can also enjoy views of alpine forests, waterfalls, and rivers along the trail!
Our Sulphur Mountain Ride departs from the Banff townsite and takes you through several sites in addition to the mountain, such as the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and the Bow Falls river crossing.
