3 Exciting Ways to See Lake Louise This Winter
Discover the best winter activities in Lake Louise! Explore guided sightseeing tours, dogsledding, snow tubing, ice skating, and more with Banff Adventures.
Lake Louise is a bucket list destination for many travellers, and it’s just as thrilling to see it in the winter as it is in the summer! Rather than simply driving out to see the lake, taking a few pictures, and calling it a day, joining an excursion or tour can make seeing Lake Louise for the first time an unforgettable experience.
Our team from Banff Adventures offers a variety of activities at Lake Louise, from guided tours to winter sports, that you won’t want to miss. Keep reading to learn about the different ways you can experience Lake Louise this winter!
Take a Guided Tour
Probably one of the first things you’d think of when touring Banff landmarks is to go with someone who knows a thing or two about them! Guided tours can be great for first-time visitors who know little to nothing about the area's history and geography. These types of excursions are a dime a dozen, which is why our Lake Louise Winterland Tour offers much more than a little sightseeing.
Some of the highlights include:
- Snowshoeing in the lakeside powder and/or skating on the frozen lake (all gear is included in the cost)
- A tour of the historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
- Scenic views of the Rocky Mountains and the Victoria Glacier
- Delicious treats to keep you fed and warm throughout the day!
This tour is designed to allow you to explore Lake Louise at your own pace and with your preferred activities. On the way over, you’ll get to hear stories and fun facts from our experienced interpretive guides, and then once we arrive, the lake is yours to explore!
Experience Dogsledding
Dogsledding is one of the quintessential Canadian activities that many people dream of experiencing, and we offer it in Lake Louise! You can find two tours at this location with Banff Adventures: The Great Divide Tour and Mushing 101.
The Great Divide Tour is our most popular and has three different departure times: 9:30 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm. It runs for 1.5 hours and takes you through Banff’s beautiful countryside to the Kicking Horse Pass at the Continental Divide. If you’ve always wanted to try leading a pack of dogs down a slope, you can drive the sled with your guide for a portion of the trip on the way back!
The Mushing 101 Tour is a more advanced version of the Great Divide, where you or your partner get to drive your own dog sled team for the majority of the trip; talk about a great bonding activity!
Go Snow Tubing
Sledding, tobogganing, and snow tubing are pretty standard activities for the average Canadian kid, but not everyone gets the chance to ride down the powder at Lake Louise!
We offer snow tubing at the Lake Louise Ski Resort. If you go with friends and family, you can race each other, or you can group your tubes together for one big slide down the hill!
You can book a session for:
- 10 am to 12 pm
- 12 pm to 2 pm
- Or from 2 pm to 4 pm
Once you’re done tubing, you can explore the area, take pictures, and if you brought rental skates with you, take a glide across the frozen lake!
