Ice Walks in Banff

If you’re looking to get up close to natural beauty, but want added safety, ice walks are a great option for hikers and explorers alike. Man made steel walkways provide an easy pathway to follow, winding through some of the most spectacular expanses of Johnston Canyon. Take in the wonder of the upper and lower falls while bundled up, and keep a keen eye peeled for the wildlife that calls the area home as you venture forward! All tours include expert guide, ice cleats and transport from Banff. Or if you want to explore on your own, visit the Banff Adventures store to rent a set of ice cleats. This is a very cost effective way to add safety grip and climb icy trails.

What to expect

Each one of our tours includes hotel pick up and drop off within Banff, along with a guide, ice cleats, snack and hot cocoa. Suitable for children ages 8 and up, your adventure will take you along a set path that allows for unparalleled views of the gorge, frozen falls, and even some ancient native pictographs! Our evening tours allow you to explore by the light of a headlamp and powerful flashlights, watching as the beams dance off your frozen surroundings. Treat yourself to an adventure by the flow of the moon on the way back, and huddle up over a cup of hot chocolate to stay warm!  Tours are operating as a small group public tours, and masks are mandatory for all guests and guides.
