Since 1959 visitors from all over the world have been awed by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains with a ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain on the Banff gondola. The grandeur of the Canadian wilderness, that has captured the imagination of the world, becomes a reality on the 8 minute trip to the upper terminal. The Banff gondola has a history of creating an appreciation for the unspoiled land in the Banff area. You have a panoramic view of the wide variety of tree species such as pine, Douglas fir, balsam, and aspen. You might be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife: deer, elk, big horn sheep, maybe even a bear! This history has cemented the Banff gondola into a hugely popular attraction that you must experience for yourself.
Visitors should know that the gondola will be closed until May of 2016 due to the Banff gondola redevelopment project. The upper terminal will be undergoing a complete overall. Along with the new Banff gondola, all facilities in the upper terminal are expected to open by August of 2016. Brewster Travel Canada is sponsoring the project that will cost $26 million. The new terminal will be significantly larger and boast a theatre, new restaurants, an outdoor climbing wall, an improved rooftop viewing deck, and conference space for weddings and events. Visitors can still expect to have access to the Summit Ridge Interpretive Board walk and to hiking trails that take you down the mountain, if you have a couple of hours to spare.
Banff Adventures would be pleased to plan your trip to the area after the gondola is improved for guests. Contact us by phone: 1.800.644.8888, or e-mail: email@example.com to find out how the gondola can fit into your travel plans.
